The Topcon TRC-NW400 is a fully automated, easy-to-use, auto-focus, auto-capture non-mydriatic retinal camera that is designed to obtain color images of the retina and the anterior segment of the human eye without the need for dilation of the pupil.
This takes colour photos of the retina and optic nerve to monitor conditions like diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. Taking retinal pictures is a very useful baseline in recording the status of the optic nerve in glaucoma, the macula in age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and the retinal vessels which can be affected by hypertension and other vascular abnormalities. Indeed, the retina is the only part of the body in which the blood vessels can be directly observed and photographed.
These images are stored in our data base for easy comparison and management of our patients. Patients are also given a printed copy to keep for reference.
