Dr Yeo Tun Kuan
Dr Yeo Tun Kuan is a Partner and Senior Consultant at Eye & Retina Surgeons, Camden Medical.
Prior to joining ERS, Dr Yeo was a Senior Consultant in the Department of Ophthalmology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He was the Head of Cataract, Implant and Anterior Segment, Co-chair of Eye Operating Theatre Services at TTSH, and Ophthalmology Clinician Lead for Ang Mo Kio Specialist Centre.
Dr Yeo attained his medical degree from University College London, United Kingdom in 2004. At the same time, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience with first class honours. Dr Yeo was conferred Masters of Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2010 and Fellowship with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (London) and the Academy of Medicine Singapore in 2013. He was subsequently awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship to undergo subspecialty fellowship training in Anterior Segment Surgery under world-renowned Professor Graham Barrett in Perth, Australia in 2015.
Dr Yeo is highly active in research with more than 20 publications in leading peer-reviewed journals and has been awarded various research funding. He has also received several best paper and poster prizes at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) and Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS) conferences. His research interests are in intraocular lens (IOL) formula, biometry and IOL design. He is the inventor of the EVO IOL formula, one of the most accurate IOL formulas that is being used by eye surgeons worldwide. The formula predicts the appropriate power of the IOL to be implanted during cataract surgery to attained the desired outcome.
Dr Yeo is a key opinion leader in the fields of phacoemulsification, IOL design, IOL formula and biometry, and leads the evaluation and selection of new intraocular lenses at TTSH. He is an invited member of the prestigious IOL Power Club (IPC) and International Intraocular Implant Club (IIIC) and has delivered over 60 invited talks and presentations regionally and internationally. For his educational efforts, he was conferred the ACE (APACRS Certified Educator) Award in 2022 and also the Surgical Shifu Award for cataract surgery teaching at TTSH in 2023.
Dr Yeo is passionate about delivering the best care for his patients. He practices general ophthalmology while subspecializing in complex cataract and anterior segment surgery. This includes the surgical management of subluxated cataracts, dislocated IOLs, iris reconstruction and artificial iris implantation. Dr Yeo has performed over 6000 cataract surgeries and is highly experienced in complex IOL calculations (eg. post-LASIK) and implantation of presbyopia and astigmatism correcting lenses. He is also well-versed in femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS).
